Who is Kuan Yin?

Kuan Yin (also spelled Guanyin or Quan Yin), is a bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, who is venerated as the embodiment of compassion and mercy. The name Kuan Yin means "one who hears the cries of the world" in Chinese, reflecting her role as a compassionate helper and healer.

Kuan Yin is depicted in various forms in Buddhist art, but is most commonly shown as a female figure wearing flowing robes and holding a vase or a willow branch. She is often accompanied by a small child or two, representing the children she helps, and sometimes with a dragon, symbolizing her power.

In Buddhism, Kuan Yin is often considered a savior figure who helps devotees navigate the challenges of life and achieve enlightenment. She is also venerated by Taoists and is associated with the worship of the Goddess of Mercy, due to the syncretism of Buddhism and Taoism in Chinese culture.
